Day 1: Momella Gate to Miriakamba Hut

The journey begins at the Momella Gate, situated at an elevation of 1,500 meters. Upon arrival, trekkers register with the park authorities and meet their guides and porters. The trek commences through a lush montane forest, where trekkers may encounter Colobus monkeys swinging through the trees and various bird species fluttering overhead. The day’s hike culminates at Miriakamba Hut, nestled at an altitude of 2,514 meters. Here, adventurers can rest, replenish their energy with a hearty dinner, and prepare for the days ahead

Day 2: Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut

Following a nutritious breakfast, trekkers resume their journey, traversing through the forest with a gradual ascent. Along the way, they reach the halfway point known as ‘Mgongo wa Tembo’ (Elephant Ridge), offering stunning vistas of the Meru Crater and the Ash Cone. As the trail progresses, the landscape transitions into open grassland and heath. Eventually, adventurers arrive at Saddle Hut, perched at an elevation of 3,570 meters. Here, they enjoy a well-deserved rest, savor dinner, and spend the night in anticipation of the summit push.

Day 3: Summit Day - Saddle Hut to Socialist Peak and back to Miriakamba Hut

Summit day begins before dawn, with trekkers embarking on the challenging ascent towards Socialist Peak. The initial climb takes them steeply up to Rhino Point at 3,800 meters, followed by Cobra Point at 4,350 meters. Along the narrow ridge leading to the summit, adventurers are rewarded with awe-inspiring panoramas of Mount Kilimanjaro and the surrounding terrain. Upon reaching Socialist Peak, standing at 4,566 meters, trekkers bask in the triumph of their accomplishment before commencing the descent. After a brief rest and breakfast at Saddle Hut, the journey continues downward, eventually returning to Miriakamba Hut for a well-deserved rest.

Day 4: Miriakamba Hut to Momella Gate

The final day of the trek entails a descent through the forest, retracing the path taken at the start of the adventure. Trekkers gradually make their way back to Momella Gate, where they formally sign out with the park authorities. As they bid farewell to their guides and porters, trekkers receive certificates commemorating their achievement. With memories of the majestic Mount Meru lingering in their minds, adventurers conclude their journey, returning to their accommodations in Arusha or Moshi, filled with a sense of accomplishment and awe at the natural wonders they’ve encountered along the way.
