Mount Meru Hiking Tours

Mt. Meru is located in the heart of Arusha National Park, approximately 50 miles west of Mt. Kilimanjaro. This massive volcano rises to an elevation of 14,980 feet (4,565 meters). Trekking Mt. Meru is an excellent way to acclimatize for Mt. Kilimanjaro due to its altitude and climbing distances. It also appeals to hikers who prefer fewer crowds and a more challenging climb. Because Mt. Meru is within Arusha National Park, hikers must be accompanied by an armed ranger due to the diverse wildlife on the mountain. On the lower slopes, hikers are likely to encounter elephants, giraffes, and buffalo. As they ascend, the trail follows the north rim of the volcano’s crater along a dramatic ridgeline. Throughout the trek, hikers stay in designated huts along the trail. Reaching the summit at sunrise offers breathtaking views of Mt. Kilimanjaro and the Mt. Meru Crater.
