Overview of the Lemosho route
The Lemosho Route has captured our hearts! Its variety, magnificent scenery, and untamed, wild beginning make it one of the most diverse routes up Kilimanjaro. While seeing large species such as antelopes is uncommon, it is not impossible! One of the highlights of this route is the chance to go across the Shira Plateau, one of the world’s largest high-altitude plateaus. Lemosho attracts fewer hikers than other prominent Kilimanjaro routes. It is virtually identical to the Machame route, with only the first two days offering a unique experience.
The Lemosho route also has an excellent acclimatization profile, with numerous “climb high, sleep low” opportunities that contribute to a high success rate. Most trekkers complete the route in seven days, but you can opt for an extra day to allow more time for acclimatization if needed. Keep in mind that camping is the only accommodation option along the Lemosho route.
